1、具有自主神經和(或)精神的癥狀以及某些特殊感覺(如嗅、聽)現象(包括錯覺在內)。最常見的是上腹部一股氣往上沖的感覺。

2、出現口一消化道自動癥的典型癥狀，也常隨之發生其它自動癥，約持續大于1分鐘。經常出現發作后意識混亂，發作后遺忘癥，恢復是逐漸的。

邊緣葉發作最常見的發作形式，表現為上升的上腹部不適感、惡心、顯著的自主神經癥狀及其它癥狀、包括腸鳴、噯氣、面蒼白、面發脹、面潮紅、呼吸抑制、瞳孔擴大、恐懼、驚慌及嗅一味幻覺。

如為扣帶回發作，可有復雜的運動姿勢自動癥，自主神經癥狀及心境和情感的改變。

眶額區發作，初始時表現運動和姿勢性自動癥，同時可伴有幻覺和錯覺及自主神經癥狀。

島蓋發作的特點包括咀嚼、流涎、吞咽、喉部癥狀、言語停止、味幻覺、上腹部先兆、恐懼及自主神經癥狀。
