一般停止發作后需繼續服用3～4年，腦電圖監測正常后，經過1～2年逐漸減藥至停藥。若正值青春發育期，最好延遲青春期以后。當然不同病因、不同發作類型的癲癇服藥療程則不相同。所以為了患者自身的安全起見，應盡量做到緩慢減藥，直到停藥，以達到最終的治愈。
