4、對癇性發作應明確是事件相關性發作，還是內科疾病引起的抽搐，或是很少發作僅表現為輕度抽搐的良性癲癇。針對內科疾病引起的癇性發作，應針對原發病進行治療，僅僅是在患者反復抽搐、誘發因素不能糾正時才需要抗癲癇藥物長期治療。失神性癲癇狀態或非驚厥性簡單部分性癲癇狀態，沒有腦損傷的肯定證據，且預后較好，一般不需要過激的抗癲癇藥物治療。非癇性發作的誤診常引起不恰當的抗癲癇藥物治療。
