第二,癲癇患者懷孕后,45%的人發作次數增加,特別是服用西藥,通過肝臟代謝,胎兒組織和胎盤易致抗癲癇藥血清濃度降低,而不能控制發作,若增加劑量,對母親和胎兒都有影響.

第三,特別是抗癲癇西藥,胎兒致畸發病率2.2%―13.8%.常見有腭裂,唇裂,心臟異常.致畸的發生率一方面與母親的年齡,家族史,病史(如糖尿病)等有關,另一方面與所用藥物有關,特別是有些西藥.為了防止胎兒致畸,最好服用中藥,癥狀控制應在3年以上,年齡不超過35歲.患者或家族中有畸形遺傳病者,應不生育,患者有流產,死產或生產出異常嬰兒的,再產應格外小心.
