什么是癲癇病

癲癇病(epilepsy)是大腦神經元突發性異常放電，導致短暫的大腦功能障礙的一種慢性疾病。癲癇能治愈嗎?答案是肯定的。癲癇并不是什么不治之癥，是可以被根治的。而癲癇發作(epilepticseizure)是指腦神經元異常和過度超同步化放電所造成的臨床現象。其特征是突然和一過性癥狀，由于異常放電的神經元在大腦中的部位不同，而有多種多樣的表現。可以是運動感覺神經或自主神經的伴有或不伴有意識或警覺程度的變化。

2005年國際抗癲癇聯盟對癲癇病的定義作了修訂，什么是癲癇病，其推薦的定義為：癲癇病是一種腦部疾患，其特點是持續存在能產生癲癇發作的腦部持久性改變，并出現相應的神經生物學、認知、心理學以及社會學等方面的后果。診斷癲癇病至少需要一次癲癇病發作，然而至今為止，國內學界的共識為反復出現的癲癇病發作，方可診斷為癲癇病，僅有一次發作不診斷為癲癇，因此，正確理解國際抗癲癇病聯盟的癲癇定義，對癲癇病的診斷具有重要意義。

結合對癲癇病新定義的理解，專家認為：癲癇病是一組由已知或未知病因引起、腦部神經細胞高度同步化，且常具自限性的異常放電所導致的綜合征。以反復、發作性、短暫性、通常為刻板性的中樞神經系統功能失常為特征，由于異常放電神經元的位置不同，放電擴展的范圍不同，患者的發作可表現為感覺、運動、意識、精神、行為、自主神經功能障礙或兼而有之。每次發作稱為癲癇發作，持續存在的癲癇病易感性所導致的反復發作稱為癲癇病。

這些易感性包括有明確的癲癇病家族史，發作間期腦電圖有明確的癇樣放電，有確切而不能根除的癲癇病因存在等。在癲癇中，由特定癥狀和體征組成的特定的癲癇現象，稱為癲癇病綜合征。癲癇的后果對患者的心理、認知及社會功能都有明顯影響。
