造成兒童癲癇病的病因很復雜，種類也是五花八門的，很可能與先天遺傳有關，有的可能與先天腦發育不全有關，有的可能是難產、腫瘤、腦膜炎等有關。這樣的孩子在做腦電圖時，能發現有異常電波;在發病時，這種異常電波就達到了高峰，引起異常放電。對于兒童癲癇患者在17歲后，自愈能達到20%。所以患者家屬不用過于擔心。

兒童癲癇病有一定的自愈能力，但并不是說這樣的孩子就不需要治療干預。在專業醫生的指導治療下，能控制放電、抑制急性發作，間接改善孩子的智力。因為，如果不用藥控制癲癇發作，每一次急性發作，就會造成一部分神經細胞壞死，也會影響孩子的智力和記憶力。所以患者家屬還是要盡量早的去治療。
