(1)分為陰癇、陽癇或者實證、虛證兩類。這種分法實際上是繼承了傳統(tǒng)中醫(yī)的陰陽兩分法。

(2)把癲癇分成風(fēng)癇、驚癇、痰癇、食癇、熱癇、瘀癇、虛癇、蟲癇等類，是根據(jù)病因來分類的。上述幾類，散見于醫(yī)籍中，古代醫(yī)家已有論述，只是未加系統(tǒng)概括。現(xiàn)代醫(yī)家經(jīng)過加工整理，形成了一個比較完整、科學(xué)的體系，這其中有醫(yī)家獨到的見解，但總體上說來還是對古代醫(yī)學(xué)思想的繼承。

(3)把癲癇分為肝風(fēng)痰濁、肝火痰熱、肝腎陰虛、脾胃虛弱四類。這種分法，從肝、脾、腎三臟立論，體現(xiàn)了當(dāng)前中醫(yī)對癲癇病病因的基本看法，切中了要害，抓住了主要矛盾，不失為一種較好的分法。

　　大量研究證明，癲癇和遺傳因素有關(guān)。遺傳可以影響細(xì)胞膜離子通道的功能，降低驚厥閾值，引起神經(jīng)元放電。雙胎癲癇符合率的研究及家系腦電圖的研究都提示癲癇性素質(zhì)為常染色體顯性遺傳，且在5～15歲之間外顯率最高。已證實或推測與遺傳因素有密切關(guān)系的癲癇綜合征包括兒童及少年失神性癲癇、少年肌陣攣性癲癇、兒童良性癲癇伴中央顳區(qū)棘波、常染色體顯性遺傳夜間額葉癲癇等特發(fā)性全身或局部性癲癇，其中有些綜合征的基因已定位。癲癇病中藥處方
