1、常規腦電圖檢查

常規腦電圖是在病人清醒或睡眠狀態下，描記的腦電圖。

2、睡眠腦電圖檢查

當被檢者常規腦電圖正常或處于邊緣狀態時，為了進一步確定診斷，需做睡眠腦電圖，因為在清醒狀態下，僅有30%~40%的病人在單一一次檢查中可以檢出癇性放電。而70%~80%有臨床發作的病人，在一次睡眠腦電圖中就可以記錄到癇性活動。50%常規腦電圖正常的癲癇病人，在睡眠中可以記錄到癇性放電。

3、剝奪睡眠腦電圖檢查

對一些診斷困難，清醒時腦電圖正常，又難以記錄到睡眠狀態腦電圖的病人，可以采用剝奪睡眠誘發，有助于提高某些病人的癇性放電的檢出率。

4、顱內腦電圖檢查(侵入性腦電圖檢查)

通過開顱手術，直接把深部電極放置到腦表面，主要用于癲癇外科手術前評估，可以幫助確定癲癇病灶的部位和數目。

5、發作及發作間歇期視/像同步腦電圖監測

帶有攝像機的腦電圖記錄儀，可長時間記錄腦電圖，并同進拍下病人的臨床表現，以幫助確定患者陣發性發作的性質。常用來鑒別病人的發作是否是癲癇發作，同時可用于癲癇發作類型以及發作時放電部位的定位性診斷，也是癲癇外科手術前評估中最重要的檢查項目。
