癲癇患者為什么會死亡

癲癇是種遷延數年的慢性神經系統疾病，雖在不同程度上影響患者的生活質量，但對患者壽命影響較小，癲癇死亡率很低，死亡由本身直接引起者更為少見，即使在癲癇持續狀態死亡，也不見由癲癇本身所致。

癲癇死亡原因(除自然死亡外)主要見于以下幾種情況：①癲癇發作造成的意外(人身傷亡)事故;②自殺;③死于引起癲癇發作的原發病;④與治療藥物有關的癲癇死亡極為罕見;⑤由于患者不遵醫囑，突然停藥，諉發了心臟傳導阻滯所致。其中以癲癇持續狀態及發作時的意外事故造成死亡較多見;癲癇持續發作20分鐘可導致皮層缺氧，發作60分鐘后腦內海馬、杏仁核、小腦、丘腦等細胞組織受損，繼而出現功能紊亂、呼吸衰竭等，若持續狀態超過13個小時，缺氧、缺血性腦損傷持續時間過長，可以引起全身性功能衰竭而死亡，但這種癲癇死亡的情況不多，只占癲癇患者的千分之一。
