在服用方法上應主張小劑量開始，逐漸加量即使增量也不應太快，以免產生不良反應。長期用藥需定期復查血象、尿常規及肝腎功能。有條件者應定期進行血藥物濃度監測。由于老年人羊癲瘋中有腦的損害和與年齡有關的變化，因此可以推測，老年人的藥代動力學的敏感性增高，藥物濃度治療范圍的上限應該向下調整。
