【病因與預后】癲癇病治療中心專家提示：遺傳性羊羔瘋通常為良性預后，如兒童良性羊羔瘋伴中央顳區棘波、兒童失神性羊羔瘋等，對抗羊羔瘋藥物反應良好，發作次數歲隨年齡增長而減少，多數在青春期后消失。由急性顱腦外傷引起的羊羔瘋發作預后較好，一般在急性期過后即不再復發;少數可遺留羊羔瘋反復發作，需長期應用抗羊羔瘋藥物控制。在治愈原發病以后往往仍有羊羔瘋發作，應進行長期藥物治療。腦炎、腦膜炎引起的羊羔瘋，預后因感染的輕重和并發癥的有無而異。

先天性遺傳代謝缺陷、腦變性病及先天性腦發育異常等病因引起的羊羔瘋預后多不好，發作難以控制。羊羔瘋患兒合并神經系統異常及智力低下也提示預后不好。有些臨床下的棘慢波持續發放常常出現在睡眠期，雖然羊羔瘋發作不頻繁，也容易控制，但持續數月或更長時間的電持續狀態可能對患兒的語言、行為及認知功能造成不同程度的影響。

羊羔瘋起病后早期開始治療可減少復發，減輕驚厥性腦損傷，有助于改善預后。規律用藥的療程長短可影響停藥后的復發率，療程長則復發率低。一般來說病程短、及時藥物治療控制發作者復發率低;病程長、有神經系統異常、腦電圖異常、智力低下及癥狀性羊羔瘋病因未去除者復發率高。
