高熱驚厥分為單純性高熱驚厥和復雜性高熱驚厥兩種。各年齡期(除新生兒期)小兒均可發生，以6個月至4歲多見，單純性高熱驚厥預后良好，復雜性高熱驚厥預后則較差。

診斷依據

1.發病年齡多為6個月至4歲，亦可〈6個月或〉4歲。

2.驚厥發生于上呼吸道感染或其他感染性疾病早期，體溫升高至>=39℃時。

3.驚厥持續約10秒鐘至數分鐘，極少超過10分鐘，多發作1次。

4.驚厥為全身性對稱發作(幼嬰兒可不對稱)，發作時意識喪失，過后意識恢復快，無中樞神經系統異常。

5.腦電圖于驚厥2周后恢復正常。

6.預后良好。

7.既往有高熱驚厥史，如條件不完全符合前述6條依據，而又能排除引起驚厥的其他疾病，可診斷為復雜性高熱驚厥。
