癲癇持續狀態是一種急危重癥，如不及時救治可出現腦水腫，腦疝，呼吸循環衰竭而死亡。家屬一旦發現病人出現癲癇持續狀態，應立即送往醫院，送醫院之前如家里備有苯巴比妥針劑、地西泮針劑或灌腸劑，可給予一次藥物，然后送往醫院，送醫院后要向醫生詳細報告發病過程，給藥時間及劑量，以利于醫生掌握病情，合理救治。

一、癲癇發作時，迅速讓病人仰臥，不要墊枕頭，把纏有紗布的壓舌板(或牙刷把)墊在上下牙齒間，以防病人自己咬傷舌頭。隨即松開衣領，將病人頭偏向一側，使口腔分泌物自行流出，防止口水誤入氣道，引起吸入性肺炎。同時，還要把病人下頜托起，防止因窩脖使舌頭堵塞氣管。

二、癲癇發作時不要強行喂水或強行按壓肢體，應刺激或點壓人中、合谷、足三里、涌泉等穴位。
