抗癲癇藥可能對嬰兒有如下幾方面的影響：

(1)由于藥物影響嬰兒出現鎮靜作用，喂養困難，甚至呼吸困難。

(2)某些嬰兒因特異性過敏體質而對抗癲病藥出現變態反應，但不如成人那樣容易被發現。

(3)嬰幼兒對抗癲癇藥的代謝可能非常慢，因而造成藥物蓄積中毒。

(4)抗癲癇藥可能干擾腦的發育和成熟。

癲癇是慢性反復發作性短暫腦功能失調綜合征。以腦神經元異常放電引起反復癇性發作為特征。癲癇是神經系統常見疾病之一，患病率僅次于腦卒中。癲癇的發病率與年齡有關。一般認為1歲以內患病率最高，其次為1～10歲以后逐漸降低。
