一、遺傳因素。在一些有癲癇病史或有先天性中樞神經(jīng)系統(tǒng)或心臟畸形的病人家族中容易出現(xiàn)癲癇，這是癲癇的原因之一。顱腦其它疾病。腦腫瘤、腦血管病、顱內(nèi)感染等。

二、顱內(nèi)感染。如各種腦炎、腦膜炎等這些疾病，導(dǎo)致大腦皮層炎癥和水腫，引起成人羊癲瘋發(fā)作。后遺癥期由于腦實(shí)質(zhì)內(nèi)瘢痕形成和腦膜粘連，也能導(dǎo)致成人癲癇病發(fā)作。

三、腦損害與腦損傷。在胚胎發(fā)育中受到病毒感染、放射線照射或其它原因引起的胚胎發(fā)育不良可以引起癲癇;胎兒生產(chǎn)過程中，產(chǎn)傷也是引起癲癇的一個(gè)主要原因;顱腦外傷也可引起癲癇，這也是癲癇的原因之一。環(huán)境因素;男性病人較女性病人稍多，農(nóng)村發(fā)病率高于城市，另外發(fā)熱、精神刺激等也是癲癇發(fā)生的誘因。

四、酗酒。酗酒也是成人癲癇病形成的原因，因?yàn)殚L(zhǎng)期大量飲酒，可引起胃炎、心律失常、造血功能和免疫功能異常外，最主要的是神經(jīng)系統(tǒng)毒性，使體內(nèi)維生素b1缺乏，造成腦組織代謝障礙，發(fā)生腦萎縮，造成成人癲癇病發(fā)作，還可能導(dǎo)致注意力低下，甚至癡呆。急性乙醇中毒，可直接引起成人癲癇病發(fā)作。另外酒后生事、打架斗毆或發(fā)生交通事故，造成顱腦外傷，可引起外傷后繼發(fā)性癲癇病。
