另外癲癇患者的年齡因素對病情也有影響，不同年齡階段引起癲癇病的主要病因有所不同。年齡或腦的成熟程度不僅影響發(fā)作的傾向，也影響發(fā)作的類型。小兒癲癇的病因及年齡分布特點對癲癇的診斷及防治有指導意義，對于圍產(chǎn)期、新生兒期、嬰幼兒期的腦發(fā)育、遺傳、代謝、助產(chǎn)技術(shù)等問題必須給予足夠的重視，畢竟由于患者自身生理因素需要我們更加注意一些。

造成癲癇病的獲得性因素，一般由獲得性因素引起腦的結(jié)構(gòu)異常或代謝異常可產(chǎn)生致癇灶或降低驚厥閾值。病變可以是限局性或彌漫性，靜止性或進行性。這類癲癇病稱為繼發(fā)性(或繼發(fā)性)癲癇病。在繼發(fā)性癲癇病中，遺傳因素也可能起重要作用，在小兒時期尤其如此，可以說許多小孩癲癇患者都是這種原因造成的。
