其次是治療后期的鞏固治療，癲癇的發作已經控制，對于后期的鞏固治療，也要特別重視。這個期間治療老年人癲癇，已經建立在癲癇不再發作的基礎上，但是由于癲癇具有反復性，這時主要是對病情的一個調理，加強患者對疾病的抵抗能力，遠期療效可靠。這時治療時間一般來說比較長，要堅持一到兩年左右。這期間患者千萬不要任意停藥。

最后就是老年癲癇康復后的減藥期，這時候患者需要分清主次、逐漸減藥、完全康復，是在經過以上兩個時期的治療后。中醫望、聞、問、切之病態癥候完全恢復正常、復查腦電圖兩次以上均正常、癲癇再沒有發作過，符合癲癇康復標準，斷定確為康復而開始有計劃有步驟地減少藥量。此期大約為一年至兩年的時間。患者對此要有耐心。
