孩子外傷后如果出現癲癇發作，應及早做抗癲癇治療，治療越早效果好。腦外傷后病情較重者，存在腦電圖不正常，沒有癲癇發作，應給予預防性抗癲癇藥治療，一般選用單藥治療，半年為期，查腦電圖基本正常，可減量至停用。

兒童癲癇誘發因素多，中樞神經系統的感染、腦發育畸形、各種腦缺氧缺血性疾患、代謝紊亂、中毒等。家長必須要重視的是作好圍產期保健、產前檢查、優生優育并按免疫程序接種疫苗預防流行性腦膜炎、病毒性腦炎、結核感染等。平時，要謹防孩子腦外傷。
